Leehom doesn’t know how to get mad. Never loses his temper.
Leehom has been in the spotlight for many years, and we rarely see Leehom have any confrontations. Leehom is a man seeking peace. Leehom explained, “I don’t have the ability to scream at someone, I mean I get annoyed, but I just don’t know how to raise my voice.” Leehom’s workers at Sony who have worked with him for over 8 years laughed at his inability to get mad, “You know sometimes he’s a bit pissed off but he’s always still so friendly and calm, it’s kind of scary how much patience he has.” Usually when Leehom gets angry he keeps it to himself and ends up sulking in his room, because he doesn’t like to take it out of others. “I’ve worked with him for over 5 years and even when he’s not satisfied he has such a nice tone, if you didn’t’ understand mandarin you would think he was complimenting you,” revealed close worker Mrs. Chow. Leehom just has too much of a pleasant, shy demeanor to really reveal his feelings. “I guess I vent all my emotions through my music, so I don’t know how to vent through screaming or yelling or fighting,” Leehom explained.
Why is Leehom such a tempered person? Perhaps it has to do with his upbringing. Leehom was the middle child and as a result he couldn’t express many of his feelings. He’s patience grew when he started taking care of his little brother, teaching him math, and changing his diapers. He then took on a Newspaper job and instead of buying video games with the money he got, he bought a drum set to further delve himself into music.
“Music was my specialty” Leehom said. “My big brother was extremely smart, and my entire family was top notch, and I had so much pressure to be like them. But as much as I tried I just couldn’t live up to my big brother. I realized that it was because my brother had a passion in school, while my mind was off on music.” However, with that said Leehom still graduated top of his class. “I guess I have to in a way thank my parents for pushing me so hard, I remember before the SATs my mother made me memorize sections of the dictionary. I’m still not the most book smart in the family. My big brother is a doctor and my little brother attends MIT.”
“I had planned to go to Princeton or Yale for medicine, but then I realized that my true passion was music and I would rather live doing what I loved than follow in my brother’s footsteps. If I had not chosen to go to Williams, I think I would probably be a doctor now, but of course I would be no where as happy as I am now.”
