Wang Leehom
My Head Is Filled With This Movie
In Lust, Caution/Se.Jie, Wang Leehom plays a young activist devoted to anti-Japanese activity during war between China and Japan. Meanwhile, he has the task of communicating her mission to a woman, played by Tang Wei, a comrade to whom is he drawn by a glimmer of affection. How does he project himself onto a man of 60 years ago and more who throws himself into the cause of revolution?
He and his character share only one thing, says Wang, a dogged search of the ideal that he pursues as a singer. He says that perhaps that quality is what led Ang Lee to overlook his lack of experience as an acter and cast him n the role, He thinks that, even though he and his character are of different eras, they are connected by their pursuit of a dream.
it is certainly no mistake to say that, even though he has appeared in a handful of films already, the chance to appear in a full-fledged proiect, not to mention one of this international scale, represents a significant opportunity.
He himself, however, is modest about it.
The simple fact of his participation in this film, he says, has great meaning for him, because the chance to appear in an Ang Lee movie is one that comes only rarely. He does not, however, see this project as his opportunity to become active as an internationally known actor; right now it is this film that fills his head.
Already firmly established as a top star in Asian music, what captivates him about this project is not the prospect of fame in the film world, but the chance to work with Ang Lee.
After all, Wang says, he is a musician.
