Rain? So what?
Wang Lee-hom's fans don't care
By Yeoh Wee Teck
WHEN they are determined to get a moment with their idol, even the rain can't keep them away.
About 1,500 fans of singer Wang Lee-hom (right) queued patiently last Saturday for his autograph.
Even though this is his third visit to our country, fans couldn't get enough of him.
Since it was an outdoor event (outside the Heeren), the fans had to brave the sun and the rain.
Luckily, it didn't pour. Instead, it was a drizzle that an umbrella could handle.
For a while though, it looked as if Lee-hom would have had his thunder stolen.
Prior to his appearance, pop starlet Evonne Hsu was also at the Heeren, signing autographs.
While that was going on, the Lee-hom queue was sparse. But the moment that was over, it was Lee-hom mania.
It was a good day for the fickle fan.
Lee-hom turned up at 5pm and immediately turned on the charm and launched into two songs from his platinum album Evolution.
The left-hander promised an autograph to everyone in the queue.
Ms Tamara Zhao, 21, a student from China studying in Singapore, was first in line. She had been there since 7am that morning.
'I'm very emotional now,' she gushed, immediately after getting Lee-hom's autograph. 'It is my first time meeting him and I'm very impressed. He is better-looking in person too.'
SOME GROUSES
Not everyone in the queue was happy though.
A couple of people were overheard arguing with security guards; and when a woman cut the queue to get her poster signed for friends (she told security she was from a local broadcasting station), some fans gave her dirty looks.
But apart from that, it was all smiles.
Lee-hom played the role of teen idol to the hilt, with a smile for everyone in the queue.
And he didn't look like he was faking it either.
In this day and age, where a potential teen idol is introduced into the scene every other day, it is good to know that some idols really do care about their fans.
