Hey has anyone here listened to In Da Club by 50 cent? Yeah undeniably, it is so similar to Ya Birthday by leehom! I think.. maybe leehom got his inspiration for Blackie's birthday song from that? Yup... and after that he modified the beat a lil', and the other effects ... and put it into his album!!
What do you guys think?

Hm.. the front part does sounds quite similar. But towards the middle not so much. I think perhaps the beat is the same so makes it sound alike. Lee hom's version is more like a tune than a continuous beat as in the case of this song. But the chorus does sound like this song. Like what Noelle says, perhaps he got the inspiration from this song. That's why it sounds so similar.

The song lyrics in the beginning of the song, has "ya birthday" in it.. Maybe it's really an inspiration.. I agree with Jos that only the beggining resembles the song.. It's quite nice thou..

Hi all,
I must say the first time I heard 'Ya Birhtday', I instantly thought of In Da Club. Especially since Lee Hom has been using 'shortie' in his songs like 'Ya Birthday' and 'What was I thinking'.
Was 'Ya Birthday' meant as a birthday song to someone?
Even then, I have to say that his new album has a lot of African American influence. Don't you gals think so?
I still kinda prefer his old songs especially 'Forever's First Day'. His vocals sounded much more powerful then. I notice he likes to sing at a really high pitch nowadays. Well, just my 2 cents.
What do you gals think?

Ya that's why i don't really like this album although it is my favourite singer - leehom. I knew it long long time ago, since the 1st day i listened this Unbelievable, Oh god, its 50 cents' song! shocked on the melody, shocked on the way he sing.... so sad and disappointed....and i wondering where's his style.. and some of the songs seem like Justin Timberlake, Damaged, Jay chou... it just when all become 1. this is a very unique album in asia's market but you'll feel it become "out" when you put it on the international stage.

Hi Tree,
I agree with you. Doesn't 'Girlfriend' and 'Not your average thug' sounds like a Justin Timberlake's? But I think I read somewhere that LeeHom is a fan of Justin. No hard feelings but I hate Justin Timberlake's style. 'Girlfriend' also sounded a lot like one of Nelly Futado's song.
I guess we are just sad because if LeeHom were to be launch to the Western market, it's nothing extraordinary anymore.
Maybe it's also because he produced this album with a lot of songwriters etc from the US.
I'll eargerly await for his English album!! I hope it will be an eye opener but most important of all, I hope we will be able to recognise LeeHom's style in it!
Cheers!

I happned to lieten to "In Da Club" this weekend, not knowing who sings it though, immediatly noticed the similarity with Ya Birthday. I was acutually wondering who sings the song... Thanks for this board. In the world of music, I guess finding this kind of similarities between two different songs is not rare. and the line between plagiarism and inspiration is often blurr.
