i would say that this album is a v.refreshing change to his previous albums, but i do not think that the feel of the album is something new. if you're familiar with the english music scene, it's really nothing new. of cos, lee hom is probably trying to bring in all these sounds into the music scene to open up listeners' hearts and minds to the type to music the other side of the world listens to. and keeping tt in mind, this album is a good attempt though i think there're still areas where he can develop. for eg, track 3, Love Love Love, which he mixes jazz with hip hop. one of the more outstanding tracks in the album due to the big band feel and how he makes jazz more accessible by adding rap to it. Girlfriend is a very clever and naughty track, and i love the indian sounds together with the chinese flute~~ on the whole, it's a v.head-bobbing album and i would think tt it's a hint to the direction of his upcoming english album... just guessing.

I agree with Fayth, I think Love Love Love and Girlfriend really show what LH is capable of. I think the way the different styles are mixed is refreshing and very interesting to listen to. The whole album does sound like lots of the music in the western scence but I think that overall its still a good listen. Not your average thug is great, however I think the other singer is the main player in this song!!! What was I thinking I think is my favorite song...I also think it is so funny, the music really makes you wanna dance and I also imagine that scenario and can feel what it would be like to be in that situation. Most of the songs I love, however I think the addition of the Macca's song I'm loving it was a bit , its a bit commercial for my liking and as much as I would like to believe it, I find it hard that LH would be as passionate about this song as the others.... Overall, this is a great album and I can't wait for the new english album...which I would think is coming soon, since LH has had such success in Japan and the little "hint" in the Cd when he is thanking ppl...

yep! i think its really great the way LH is able to make use of what he has learnt before (eg jazz) and makes it more acessible to more people. listening to this album is like a sneak preview to his english album to come.
p.s. sorry, but can enlighten me on the hint in his album? thanks! ;D

Hey Louie, how've you been? Great to hear you post your views on the album! Oh yeah, happy belated birthday! ;D
Well, I think the context of What Was I Thinking is a rather bittersweet one, if I'm allowed to call it that. The song came about after Lee Hom saw a 12 (or is it 15?) year old girl who worked in a restaurant which he went to. Apparently, the sense of loss in her eyes sparked off inspiration for this song. The lyrics are beautiful, and I'm quite sure there's an English version which could be included in the upcoming English album. However, when I first heard it, I thought it sounded like a Blue tune! Of course, the context of the song makes it so much deeper and I guess that's what differentiates it from something Blue would sing... eep.
Not Your Average Thug seems like a hot favourite. I let my friend listen to it today and she was so surprised that it's Lee Hom's song. She could hear his change of style and commented that the song's really cool! Imagine how glad I was to hear that! On the other hand, I can't help but think it's so Craig David for it to sound completely original. But that's just me.
Oh yeah, Louie, the Macca track is after all a commercial song, and it was not written by the man himself, so quite naturally he could be just doing his job and delivering the song as best as he can. It does fit into the general hip-hop sound of the album, though.

Hey Fayth, Its been ages since we have had the chance to talk!!! My icq doens't work so I only have msn now I finally got LeeHom's actual album (been naughty and dl his songs off net before : but now I've been listening to Ya Birthday! all day teehee.... Yeah I know cause he is the spokesperson for Maccas...but with that song at the end, the album doesn't finish as well as I would like it?? Know what I mean. Its not that bad but its definately not as good as the other tracks. OH just saying that the english album should be coming soon cause at the back of the lyrics book in LH message, it saids : "the entire staff at Sony Music International. You opened up an entire global network of muscians to me that invigorated this album. All I can say is...y'all know the English ALbum is gonna kill" So i thought it must mean the they've been working on the English Album and its coming soon....haha maybe I am reading into it tooo much...like I always do?? isn't that lawyers job though?? hahah You know what, Not your average thug...its definately a hit...all my english speaking friends think it rocks hahaha so proud!!! Hope to chat to you soon Fayth! ;D

Being an english speaking person myself 'Not your Average Thug' appealed to me at first too...when I was playing my cd at home my friends were surprised that it was Leehom....I can't wait for his english album, I am an R&B and Hip Hop fan so I hope that is the direction he goes in!! The whole album roks though, I have been listening to it non stop since I got it. As for the Maccas song, I don't listen to that one...as you said Lou too commercial!!
